"Aecht" is a old german word for "Original"."Schlenkerla" is the name of the beer. rauchbeir means smoked beer. the grain in this beer has been smoked before brewing.(Thanks Pia and Markus) Many years ago (I don´t know exactly when it was, probably about 200-300 years)
the landlord of the brewery Heller enjoyed too much of his beer and began to stagger.
And the franconian expression for "stagger" is to do a "Schlenkerla" ("a Schlenkerla machen")
After this incident the landlord got the nickname "Schlenkerla" and he called from this time on his beerafter his nickname.
"Aecht" is franconian dialect for "ein echtes" (a real/an original)--> "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" --> "Schlenkerla´s original Rauchbier" (Thanks Martin)
